Dr. Meaghan Cortez is a native of southeastern Massachusetts and has recently relocated to the beautiful state of Maine.
She graduated from Providence College Liberal Arts Honors Program in 2011 with a BA in Biology/Pre-Optometry. Dr. Cortez attended the New England College of Optometry and received her degree in 2014. While at NECO she rotated through many clinics, including community health centers, private practices, and hospitals in and around the Boston area.
After graduation, Dr. Cortez went on to complete a residency in Ocular Disease at the Boston Veterans Health Administration. While at the VA she rotated through several specialty externships, including glaucoma, retina, and cornea service at the VA, retina at Beth Israel, and post-operative care with Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. During her residency, she was also a clinical tutor to current NECO students.
In more recent years she has worked within private practice settings, as well as in a refractive surgery clinic. Dr. Cortez specializes in primary eye care provider for patients of all ages. In addition to meeting the refractive needs of patients through glasses or contact lenses, she is also highly trained in the diagnosis and care of many eye diseases. Some of these include cataracts, retinal disease, glaucoma, and diabetes. She also has experience in responding to ocular emergencies, pre- and post-op surgical care, and co-managing more advanced eye care needs with specialists or primary care.
Dr. Cortez is committed to addressing all of her patients needs and concerns. She works hard to provide the thorough and compassionate eye care that all patients deserve. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family, caring for her pet chickens, sailing, and sewing.
